Around the Water Bowl: August 16, 2026

Adequan Canine recall, Clear The Shelters, and the Hambone Award.

One thing that mattered

A dog arthritis medication recall was worth checking

American Regent recalled two lots of Adequan Canine Injection, lots 3369 and 25011, after visible glass-fiber material was found.

A recall headline is only the beginning. Check the product, lot number, and reason, then decide what actually applies to your pet.

One thing worth doing

August is a big month for shelter pets

Clear The Shelters, the nationwide adoption and donation campaign, was scheduled through August 31, 2026, with hundreds of participating shelters.

Shelters need support in many forms, including adoption, fostering, donations, supplies, and sharing available pets.

If someone has been saying “maybe someday,” apparently August would like a word.

One thing we had to discuss

Pets making questionable decisions

Nationwide's 18th annual Hambone Award honored unusual pet insurance claims. Every nominee recovered, which is the important part.

The award is named for a dog who ate an entire holiday ham while stuck in a refrigerator.

Max would like it noted that lunch-related incidents should not automatically be considered misconduct.
